What is donor hair?
The donor hair that is available to patients for a lifetime is limited and we must make the right choice to ensure that we choose the best strategy and treatment method to ensure that the donor hair is used wisely throughout the life of a patient. This is crucial to ensure that patients achieve the best possible result and are informed of the potential for future hair loss.
Where is the treatment performed?
The treatment is performed in an A + hospital in Istanbul, where we have full access to our own pharmacy and test facilities on location.
Do I have to cut my hair short?
In certain cases we can transplant without cutting the hair short, depending on the number of hair roots required and your hair situation. In most cases, however, we shave the hair briefly to obtain the maximum graft quality.
Am I a suitable candidate?
We always advise to arrange a personal consultation because there are many variables to investigate, including your age, family history of hair loss and the type of hair loss. These factors determine your overall suitability for treatment.
How many treatments do I need?
The number of treatments required depends on the quality of the donor hair, your goals, your current hair loss and how this will change in the future. Generally 80% of our patients need one treatment.
When do I see the result of a hair transplant?
The hair follicles grow after just a few days but after a week or two the hair falls out. You do not have to worry about this, this is a normal phenomenon. The hair follicles remain in the scalp and about three to four months after the hair transplant the hair starts to grow again. Because a hair grows on average an inch a month, it takes about a year after the hair transplant before you can see the final optimum end result.
Is the result of a hair transplant permanent?
Yes. The hairs that we implant at you come from the hair ring; the hairs on the back and on the side of your head. These hairs have a genetic characteristic that makes them stronger and so they don’t fall out. The hairs that we implant again at your site continue to grow.
How long will the treatment take?
For a treatment you must count on a whole day, between six and eight hours. During this period the grafts are first harvested, then prepared and finally implanted again. This happens piece by piece and is extremely precise. That is why the treatment takes one day.
Is a hair transplant painful?
Because the area to be treated is anesthetized locally, you will not feel the entire treatment. The procedure is relatively painless because we administer local anesthesia to prevent discomfort. The first injections can sting – it’s a feeling like taking a blood sample.
Can I wash my hair immediately after a hair transplant?
After a week you can wash your hair in the usual way again. Until then, we recommend that you wash your hair gently with a special shampoo. You will receive special instructions for this after treatment. Two days after the treatment, the first hair wash is performed in the hospital by our specialists.
How long does the recovery after a hair transplant take?
We will provide a Repair Lotion. The Repair Lotion helps and accelerates skin recovery in the first two weeks after treatment. Crusts and red spots gradually disappear. After that time your scalp is healed again.
Can I work again immediately after a hair transplant?
We recommend that you rest well for at least two weeks and take the time to recover. This promotes the end result.
Can I exercise immediately after a hair transplant?
You may not exercise intensively and / or perform physical exercise for 20 days (including sexual activities). This is due to an increased heart rate and perspiration. Sweating makes the skin moist and this makes the scalp vulnerable, which can cause bacteria and the risk of infection is increased. Do not use the sauna or the chlorinated water / swimming pool for the first 2 weeks.
Can I wear a cap or helmet after a hair transplant?
From the 7th day you can wear a cap or other headgear (with the exception of a helmet). If you still have a lot of scabs in the transplantation area, we advise you not to wear the headpiece too tightly but rather loosely. After your scabs are gone, you can also wear a helmet.
Sunlight or tanning bed?
Do not go in direct sunlight or under the sunbed for the first 4 weeks. If you spend a lot of time outdoors, it is best to use a sunscreen with a factor of 50 or wear a headpiece after the first week.
Are there any risks for my health?
The FUE treatment is a very safe and minimally invasive procedure under local anesthesia. There are very few potential health risks and, as with any surgical procedure, we take full medical precautions.
What is Shock loss?
Shock loss is the loss of already existing or transplanted hair as a result of the trauma of a surgical procedure. The incidence of shock loss is rare and any hair loss caused is temporary and normal growth returns after a period of 1-3 months. Shock loss is a possible side effect of transplantation and is minimized by the expertise of our highly experienced medical team.
What should I wear?
We advise you to wear loose, comfortable clothing. It is important to wear clothes with zippers or buttons. After the procedure we will provide you with a baseball cap.
We do not recommend the use of gel or hair spray for the first 14 days. These products have a drying effect on the scalp. Furthermore, you may not dye your hair for the first 6 months. After 2 weeks you can go to the hairdresser again. Hair clipper or razor recommended 40 days after the hair transplant.
Which aftercare is required?
You will be notified of your personalized aftercare program, where you must follow a 5-day course of antibiotics to ensure infection and some medicines to prevent postoperative swelling. All medicines that are needed, including a special shampoo and repair lotion, are prepared in an aftercare package that you take home after your treatment.
When can I drink alcohol?
We recommend that you do not use alcohol for 7 days after your procedure.
What is a graft?
A graft is a “hair follicle” that grows on your head, and in which one or more hairs can grow. How many hairs a graft contains differs per person. For one graft this will only be a single hair per hair follicle / graft, while other grafts / hair follicles will contain up to four hairs per graft.
Do I have to undergo a hair transplant later?
Unfortunately, it is possible that your hair loss will continue even further after your hair transplant. Certainly if you had a hair transplant done at a young age, that may be the case. All grafted grafts will continue to produce hair for the rest of your life because a hair transplant is permanent, but the hairs that you had before might fall out later. In that case you could therefore consider extra treatment.
What can I expect from my personal consultation?
