Timeline hair growth
A lot of patience is required after a hair transplant. Many months pass before the end result is visible, but in the meantime growth is certainly visible. For some people the hair grows a bit slower or faster than we describe below. Consider the timeline below as an indication:
Hair transplantation after 1 day
After the treatment you will get a dressing in the donor area. This stays on until your crops are washed. The head can feel sensitive.
Hair transplantation after 2 weeks
The transplanted hair will gradually fall out within 1 – 3 weeks. Pay attention; when a hair falls out, the hair follicle remains in your scalp! Hair loss after surgery is a very natural process, the hairs have become “shocked” after a hair transplant. This blow that the hair has had to endure is called shockloss. Every hair on the body has its own hair growth cycle. For example, some hairs are growing, others are breaking away from the root, and others are already falling out. During the shockloss phase, the transplanted hair falls out and the hair follicle remains without hair for about 3 months; the failure phase. After that time new hair grows in its place. Every month your hair grows approximately 1 cm
How long is it visible that you have had a hair transplant?
The wound crusts and any red coloration of the scalp can persist for about 10 days after the treatment. The swelling of the forehead will disappear earlier, after about 8 days. Depending on the individual healing process, the type of work or a position that is representative or not, the decision makes everyone else to resume daily work. Usually, most patients return to work after a maximum of 2 weeks.
Hair transplantation after 1 month
After 1 month it will appear as that no treatment has been performed. The newly transplanted hair has dropped out and the redness has disappeared. The redness is comparable to the appearance of a mild to moderate sunburn. This redness can last around 4-6 weeks in people with sensitive skin.
Hair transplantation after 2 months
New hair start to grow in the 3rd month.
Hair transplantation after 4 months
Real hair growth can start in the 3rd month after the operation. In 3 to 5 months, the hair can first be textured, sometimes curly, very thin, short and colorless.
Hair transplantation after 6 – 8 months
Gradually the hairs get a little longer, thicker, get more color and can still be without structure.
Final result after 12 months
As the hair grows in the 9 to 12 month period, the hair becomes thicker and starts to mimic the natural donor hair. It takes around 12 months to observe the full growth and length of the transplanted hair.
